The Washington, built around 1750 is a part of the Historic Yellow Springs in Chester Springs. The building originally served as an inn and tavern, then was used by General George Washington as sleeping quarters during the Revolutionary War. After the Civil War, the house served as an orphanage for the children of Civil War soldiers. Finally, during the 20th century, the building housed students from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The Washington currently hosts large events, and some historic elements, such as the dining table from the orphanage, are still utilized as part of the setup for events.
